Concrete cores are usually cut by means of a rotary cutting tool with diamond bits. In this manner, a cylindrical specimen is obtained usually with its ends being uneven, parallel and square and sometimes with embedded pieces of reinforcement.
Core Cutting is generally performed to :
- Create a hole for installing ducts such as for A.Cs, Pipes etc
- Sample for strength testing in Old structures or bridges – this is called as destructive testing.
Whatever may be the reason for Core Cutting, the Reinforcement is never touched. This cannot be compensated. Moreover, ordinary core Cutting machines are not capable of Cutting Reinforcement.
